Component 4: Practice Performance Assessment & Improvement
Component 4 requires physicians to engage in continuous quality improvement through comparison of personal practice performance measured against national standards for their medical specialty.
The AOBOS requires diplomates to complete one PPA every three-year CME cycle (each PPA is worth 10 Category 1-B CME credits). There are 15 chart-based, online modules available through the Osteopathic Continuous Assessment & Training, or OCAT, website.
In lieu of a PPA, physicians may attest to participation in quality improvement activities at their facility. Attestations do not earn CME credit but will fulfill the Component 4 requirement. Visit the AOA Physician Portal to read the Attestation FAQ and to complete the Attestation Form.
