Component 2: Lifelong Learning/Continuing Medical Education

Overview

Component 2 of the Osteopathic Continuous Certification process requires recertifying physicians to pursue lifelong learning through continuing medical education.

CME Requirements

Pediatric Specialty Component 2 requirements for the OCC Cyle Ending Dec. 31, 2024:

  • Total 60 CME credits during each three-year AOA CME cycle
    • 15 credits must be AOA Category 1-A
    • 45 CME (1A, 1B, 2A, 2B)
    • View your status for all OCC components via the AOA Physician Portal

Non-timed limited Diplomates (those who received board certification prior to 1995):

  • 120 CME credits during each three-year AOA CME cycle
    • 30 credits must be AOA Category 1-A
    • 90 CME (1A, 1B, 2A, 2B)
    • View your status for all OCC components via the AOA Physician Portal

Beginning 2025-27: OCC Cycle CME requirement changes

Pediatric Board time limited Diplomates:

  • Total 60 CME credits during each three-year AOA CME cycle
    • 15 credits must be AOA Category 1-A
    • 15 credits must be Pediatric Specialty Specific AOA Category 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B
    • 30 CME (1A, 1B, 2A, 2B)
    • View your status for all OCC components via the AOA Physician Portal

Non-timed limited diplomates (those who received board certification prior to 1995)

  • 120 CME credits during each three-year AOA CME cycle
    • 30 credits must be AOA Category 1-A
    • 30credits must be Pediatric Specialty Specific AOA Category 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B
    • 90 CME (1A, 1B, 2A, 2B)

POMT Modules

POMT Modules are no longer a requirement for OCC. The American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians (ACOP) will soon be offering POMT Modules. Check back for available dates.
