Timeline
The American Osteopathic Board of Radiology administers primary certification exams, subspecialty certification exams, and Osteopathic Continuous Certification requirements. The following stages represent key milestones in the process to obtain primary board certification in Diagnostic Radiology.
Written Exam
1. In order to take the Diagnostic Radiology Combined Physics and Diagnostic Imaging Written Exam, applicants must be in their third year of a four-year training program in diagnostic radiology (or later).
2. The Diagnostic Radiology Written Exam is offered in June of every year. The application period opens Dec. 1, and applications are due March 1 each year.
Oral Exam
3. The Diagnostic Radiology Oral Exam is offered once each year, generally every May. The application period opens Oct. 1, and applications are due Dec. 1.
Become Board Certified
4. Upon successful completion of all exam components, the AOBR will recommend osteopathic board certification to the AOA.
5. You will receive a letter from the AOA via email once certification has been approved.
6. You are now board certified. You will receive your certificate in the mail within 10-12 weeks of notification of approval.
7. Your primary certification in Diagnostic Radiology will remain active for 10 years following date of issue provided you successfully complete Osteopathic Continuous Certification requirements.
Osteopathic Continuous Certification
8. Maintain active licensure.
9. Participate in lifelong learning and continuing medical education.
10. Complete the cognitive assessment.
11. Complete the practice performance assessment.
